  1. The Food Log/

October 2026

Early October is mostly trip notes: a tabbouleh worth learning, a subtly sweet red cabbage, an onion jam on a double smash burger, and a German dinner of roulade and pork tenderloin with apple. Plus all of the Hawaii treats we have grown to love.

Week of Friday, October 16th

Old warped food posts #p0

  • Review drafts from warpedvisions, likely overlap #todone @2026-10-17

Essay topics: #ideas

  • toasting methods → dry, dry/smooth, oil, whole vs. surface
  • add cheesey pasta (one pan) build or recipe
  • research “national dish” dishes and consider adding (ramen, pizza, mole, tapas, pot au feu, borsch, pasta al pomodoro, rice, meze)

On the list:

  • oh-no with cocunut cream cerveche
  • bananas (Apple bananas, ice cream bananas) → delicious
  • https://www.pukadog.com/ → the relishes were great, but the bun + toasting technique were the real MVP.
  • https://www.pukadog.com/ → sauces, bun
  • Real pineapple is amazing, ditto for all of the fruit we had.
  • Turkey dinner notes: it was surprisingly good for a scaled dinner
  • Tiki dinner was amazing!

Food memories:

  • American Grill in Cottonwood mall? this is a guess from some research, either that or Boardwalk burgers.

Methods and blueprints #todo

I’m adding a section to explain how anyone can develop recipes, by showing methods for making things, blueprints, and talking about their lineages.

  • Settle the eight open choices in the methods pages mock (mockups/methods-pages.html §7, each card shows the proposal and its alternative) #todone @2026-10-10
  • Start a Fugu session to take phase 2 (concept pages, blueprint and build pages, the stack render hook), and push its four queued commits #todone @2026-10-10
  • Review the burger method drafts (6 parts, 3 builds) for voice and accuracy #todone @2026-10-10
  • Gather reference examples for the layer drawings that read least well (bacon, pickles, bread, etc.), for the phase 6 redraw #todone @2026-10-14

Week of Friday, October 9th

On the list:

  • research poke: Hawaiian style, garlic style, shoyu. These are great on rice or with salad.
  • research crab salad (like salmon salad), but with cabbage and carrot. This was surprisingly excellent.

Week of October 6th

Week of October 2nd

On the list:

  • research + testing for a gyro beef pan flattened parchment (thin, roasted hot, sliced for pitas/salad/sandies)

Food notes from our trip.

  • had a delicious Tabbouleh salad (this is a pattern worth learning)
  • a dish of red cabbage was subtly sweet and perfectly seasoned (one of the best I’ve had)
  • a double smash burger had an onion jam on it that was savoury and sweet, perfectly balanced
  • Ann had a chicken sandwich at the hotel that was lovely (chicken breast, tender, nice bread, great flavour) → pull from hotel menu
  • German dinner: roulade, pork tenderloin/apple were both great
  • Bolognese/simple hit the spot

Addition food ideas:

  • Recipe based on that photo of lightly breaded minced chicken patties (similar to fast food, but more like schnitzel).
